Scripture: Acts 14:15-28
What or who do you tell people about? When you talk to people, what do you talk about? For me right now, I would probably talk to you about the Philadelphia 76ers. They just had the number 1 overall pick in the draft and this player has played great in his first 2 summer league games. I’d tell you to keep your eye on him! In fact, follow this team this season. They are going to be so fun to watch!
Those conversations come easy. I can point you to the Sixers. You can talk about the weather, politics, TV shows, videos, and other things.
But when is the last time you pointed someone to Jesus?
Paul and Barnabas were traveling around to different towns for the sole purpose of pointing people to Jesus. They didn’t want people to follow them. Sure, things happened and they did get a crowd, but they used that opportunity to point those people to Jesus.
People like to follow other people, but God wants His followers to point others to follow Jesus. He wants His followers to help others turn from the worthless things of this world and turn to follow the living God (Acts 14:15).
The primary way that God helps others turn to follow him is through His Church. Paul and Barnabas encouraged those in the church and helped them organize to lead others effectively (Acts 14:22-23).
It’s not going to be easy. The church will face opposition. But if we point people to Jesus, lives will be changed.
